The Shottstown Miners’ Club, Penicuik
This is a well-established Miners Club, which you will find here in John Street, Penicuik. It has a long and honourable history both as a Miners’ club and as a venue for many events and organisations in Penicuik. The Miners’ Club phone number is 01968 675875 but Folk Club enquiries should be directed primarily to Alan Murray.
Externally, it’s not a thing of beauty and occasionally you’ll have to ring a wee bell to be let in (!). Once inside, however, it is warm, the staff are welcoming and friendly, the beer is cheap and the lounge bar at the back, where we meet, is comfortable and has good acoustics. Sometimes we use our small-but-perfectly-formed PA, often we do not.
We can also use the club’s large function room for any larger concerts, so all of our activities are in the Miners’ Club, apart from the occasional collaboration with our pals in Penicuik Community Arts Association.
